Wing Mirror problem S280

1994 S280. The left hand wing mirror adjusts normally using the control knob but will not fold back. The right hand unit folds back normally.
I have dismantled the mirror assembly on a couple of occasions but cannot find any reason for the problem - and neither have I found out how to get right into the unit. Can anyone advise best course of action please. Thanks.

Can yopu hear the motor running when the switch is pressed.

if it is, the spray plenty of PTFE into the fulcrum point moving the mirror by hand a few times

Wing mirror

Hi Malcolm,
Sorry for the delay - it's p*^^ing down here (Spain) so didn't want to get soaked!
Can hear the motor on the right mirror fold back but no motor sound when I try to operate the left mirror fold back. Both work fine as far as normal adjustment is concerned.
Regards,
John

Hi John then it could be a broken wire in the housing or maybe the motor dead, but that is rare, you need a multimeter to check, you can take the mirror off quite easily and the cover

Hi Malcolm
Thanks again. Doubt if it's a broken wire as all seems nice and clean and tidy - but sorry to be so stupid - is the motor actually in the mirror housing or in the door? I have had the complete mirror off a couple of times but have not been able to get right inside it.
Wish there was a Haynes for this model! I bought a 2 disc cd so-called service manual but it isn't a lot of use.

The motor is in the mirror, and the wires do break in side due to the swiveling action, and we have had 2 post this week where this has been the fault.

I will send you via Email the instructions to remove the cover, and post back when I have sent them
