First thing this morning, fitted the spare set of wheels with Vredestein Wintrac Xtremes to the CLK. I've been putting it off for a while as the weather has been so mild, but noticed the rear Conti's were now below the legal limit after 17,000 miles.

Went out christmas shopping in heavy rain and cold too, about 4 degrees C, tyres appeared to have tremendous grip in these conditions. Leaving the shops, the rain turned to sleet and then snow, temp dropped to 0 degrees C.
These tyres are like limpits, I stopped in roads covered in an inch of snowy slush, and floored the throttle a few times, I could not even get the traction control warning to light up on the dash as the car had so much grip. looking forward to the first real snow fall of the winter to see how good they really are.

I just came back from Germany this year where winter tyres are a requirement in most regions.

It is certainly worth the outlay to get a set on steel rims to ensure that you keep your pride and joy on the straight and narrow. They really do make an amazing difference.

It may even help to keep your loved ones safe (no not your car!).

I decided to buy a set after researching the internet for winter driving and was amazed at the number of people who said that after owning a set of winter tyres would never be without them again. Most people assume they are snow tyres, but in reality they are for temperatures below 7 degrees C, whether snow, rain or dry. I'm very impressed so far.

I was looking at a set of these for my CLK too. All the reviews are very positive - look forward to hear what you think in a month or two.

They definitely help. I spend a lot of time in Sweden and Finland this time of year and snow tyres are a boon. I use them on the back wheels of the Merc, enough here in Scotland.

Last week I had to plug my hire car into a block heater to stop the oil gunging up. It's fun overtaking SUVs in the snow, I love the "wasted my money" look on their face.

Put a set of these vredestein wintrac extreme 4's on our new Hilux for the winter period.

Agree 100%, amazing grip, has transformed the feel of vehicle completely, SWMBO can now throw it around with her usual abandon!

Cant justify another set for the 124 coupe though, got more sets of wheels amd tyres than you can shake a stick at.

Hi there,

I've been reading a lot about winter tyres, but haven't bitten the bullet yet. What is the road noise like with these Vredestein Wintrac Xtremes?

Cheers,

:)

It is now quieter than the Conti's that I had on before. Plus the ride/comfort seems to have improved also, not sure if that is because of the new tyres or the fact that they have more tread than the worn Conti's had.
