Hi all,
1994 c180 sport
when i turn on the ignition the wiper comes on and indicators are ticking fast when operated. Also i have no brake lights, i've checked all the bulbs and fuses, seem to be ok. i've also tried earthing the car at different points, I'm assuming the brown wire's attached to the chassis is the earth. Hope its not the stalk can anyone help?

Have you got an automatic? Or manual?

You could try cleaning the stalk, as that is the easiest thing to check first, see…http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=38617

If the indicators are ticking fast I think? that means one of the bulbs is faulty, but not sure about that though.

There is also a mutable relay I think it is 2 in picture, it is involved in the intermittent wipers and the indicators and headlight flasher not sure what the rest of the relays 1 and 3 are for, someone may enlighten me.

Thanks Dec,
I'll give that a go, by the way it is a 4 speed auto.
Cheers.

I would check to see if there is 12v at the bulb holder when someone has their foot on brake
.
The tail lights and the brake lights have separate fuses
.
I would check them again as the may have been burned and have bad contact, better to put in fresh fuses just to be sure, failing all that you are left with a possible faulty brake switch/wiring at pedal, however if the brake switch is faulty, this usually results that you cant engage any gear.

You should also have the bulb failure-warning lamp illuminated in the cluster when the brake pedal is pressed.

I've had success.
I looked into the nr. 2 relay you mentioned.
I took off the cover and put on the ignition, the wiper was moving again, put on the hazards and I could hear the relay clicking and touching it to confirm, you could feel a slight vibration from it in sync with the clicking.

I took a nr. 2 relay out of a 1994 elegance, it was slightly different (less one pin) than the one I took out of my sport I tried it anyway and it worked!!

I will keep looking for the one I need, but at least I have indicators and brake lights again.

I got a different set of bulbs for the brake lights from a different motor shop, I was'nt happy with the first set, they did not go in as easy as I thought they should (cheap muck).
The second set are in and all is working fine.

Thanks again for your advice.
