Hi all
Welcome any feedback
Bought my low milage 2017 SL400 in march this year, but I find the wiper blades noisy while going over the windscreen!

Is this normal for this model?

I had a 11 year old MK6 golf before this car and the wipers were silent in comparison................

No, clean the screen and replace the wipers, they’ve probably gone hard with age/sunlight

Exactly what Blobcat said.

Also the quality varies widely so just get Bosch (if available for your car) and maintain them. Should get 2 years easy.

I think the SL400 has 'Magic Vision' wipers? The screen wash is routed via the blades which are consequently outrageously expensive. £70-80 a pair last time I looked.. Still probably need new ones though!

Your correct, they can be upto £280!!! They look fine and the rubber contact is still flexible but noisy against the windscreen when used.

Never heard of the wd40 wipe down, will try it sometime.

Not sure if anyone does this but when I wash my cars, I always run a soapy mitt over the length of the wiper rubber to ensure any unseen crap that’s easy to shift is removed.

Mercedes wipers in my experience are pants!

I had a brand new E300 Hybrid in 2014 and the wipers skipped and juddered across the screen, changing wipers, cleaning screen etc did not cure this issue.

In 2016 I purchased a brand new E350 S212 model and the wipers on this skipped and juddered across the screen, I made an issue of this and new wipers were tried, the screen was given a thorough clean, new wiper arms were ordered but no change so a specialist adjustment tool was sent from Germany to adjust angles and spring pressure but nope still the same, the dealership manager was involved when I asked to speak with him about this issue, to that end they brought some other W212 cars round and all of them juddered to a certain degree not all of the noticeable from inside the car though.

My next car was a 213 series E Class Coupe and these wipers were fine.

My next and current car is a 2021 GLC initially these juddered across the screen and changing wiper blades did not help in desperation I put the wipers in the park position removed the blades and bent the arms until the end where the wipers fit sat as flush as possible to the screen, this made a good deal of difference and they are now acceptable.

On the other hand my wife’s 2011 Aygo sweep majestically and silently across the screen.

Not had an issue on my 210, 211, 213 or 171 with juddering wipers. I use MB or Bosch mainly, although have some Michelin ones in the boot of the 171 to try next.
Smart was juddering, that was because they’d gone hard from sun damage, changed them recently to Bosch and all quiet again.
Land Rover ones I change regularly as they just deteriorate in the sun as it doesn’t get used much.

Must be luck of the draw but mine were pretty awful on brand new cars.

It is annoying though having paid a decent sum of money to see them skipping and juddering across the screen.

It is a very simple fix. You need to change the angle of attack that the blade touches the window. Put an adjustable spanner on the arm and bend slightly. see
