Looking to get opinions on a recent fault with a C220 CDI 2012.

The wipers have randomly stopped working. When pushed up, they move back to position, but not operational.

A local garage have checked the fuses, and mentioned the motor needing replacing. Which we replaced, the garage confirmed it the motor works but said it needed to be checked by Mercedes as said it’s possibly something to do with the module or wiring. (Second time having a fault that a normal high street garage cannot repair).

Anyway, we took it into Mercedes who they’ve said the fault is with either the wiring or interior control panel. After 5 minutes on the phone was told the senior technician says it’s the control panel (interior) I cannot see anywhere how this is connected to the wipers........ am I wrong? They also quoted us initially £1,200+ for the repair. When challenged they reduced this. Which was something! But wondering how many others they’re over charging.

However after searching the internet about control panels I am stumbled on how this could be the issue. Could anyone advise?

never take a merc older than 4 years to a main dealership

they don't actually understand working on cars this age, good techs that might have worked on "old ones" will have already moved on, they will have no parts in stock and usually charge the price of a one bed starter flat to open the bonnet

go to one of the great brand experts (independent merc specialist garages), that work on all ages of cars and will usually have done the repair you need 6 times that week on other vehicles, hence they know exactly how and often do it for 1/10 of the price, faster and better than the sacked McDonalds workers employed at the flashy places

I'd echo what's been said above. The overhead panel might come into play if it contains the rain sensing device although on my car (209) l think the sensor is separate. I'm sure a good Merc indy will be able to sort for you.
