Dose the fuse blow if you turn the wipers on BY PRESSING THE STALK INWARDS ONLY so as to get 3 sweeps of the blade? (plus a little squirt of the jets) DO NOT turn on the intermittent, slow or fast setting.

hi, this sounds like the wiper motor is drawing too much current.
Chances are that you need to service/replace the wiper motor.

You need to disconnect the wiring at the wiper motor ,replace the fuse and sw. on wiper if the fuse stays intact looks like your wiper motor is bad

If it only happens when you try to turn on your wiper then I suggest you check the mechanism to make sure it hasn't seized. There are a number of posts detailing how to lubricate the single wiper mechanism and to be honest you'll at least have a better idea of what may be wrong once you've taken the covers off and can see whether there's any physical damage anyway. Hope thats helps.

Cheers,
Mark

Remove the front fuse box lid.
There are about 4 ? screws to remove, this will give you access to the windscreen end of the fuse box.
There is a plug there, I think it is the only one, there should be 5 ? wires coming from it.

Now, on my car, C180 1994 it is not at the fuse box but beside the wiper motor, which means removing the trim at the bottom of windscreen, however I think yours is under the fuse box , which is much easier to get at.

Its still blowing fuses when wipers switched on, so that leaves the motor or the stalk.

I haven’t done this but the TOP INCH of the stalk can be pulled off so as to clean/inspect the switch inside. There is a spring inside which can shoot out so I would advise that you put some kind of transparent plastic bag over the stalk so as to catch the spring, and anything else, when it pops out. Sorry I don’t know any more about the stalk, maybe someone else may know more.

If that doesn’t work then it may be the motor.

it cant be the motor if the fuse blows while the motor is disconnected.

SARA

Your right hmang, the way I read SARA’s post #11 is that when the motor was disconnected, the flasher, etc work fine, I wrongly assumed that SARA then reconnected the motor and then turned the lever for the wiper, which blew the fuse, but SARA didn’t actually say that the motor was reconnected, so as you say that would exclude the motor from the inquiries.

So that leaves some other fault, wires/fuse/fuse box wet? or stalk.
