Wire colour question

The ABS light on my C200 [w202] stays on even when the key is removed.
I was sold a pup and the bulb was not in the holder...

Anyway - I get a halfords guide and according to the wiring diagram it is the "Blue/White that is the wire for this bulb.

WRONG!!!! I disconnected the wire [cut...] and it still stays on.

So, does anyone [ANYONE!] have a wiring guide that might say the colour that the ABS light wire is?

Thanks, in desperation,
Mike

Hi,
Get the codes read, find out why its on and fix it.
It won,t pass an MOT unless it does work correctly.

I agree, get the ABS system analysed otherwise you could be in the brown stuff when it comes to the MOT time.

Can you not take it back to the seller or was it a private sale?

Goods have to be fit for purpose and this isn't if the ABS lamp is on.

Your insurance may not pay up in the event of an accident if you knowingly drive the vehicle with a defective braking system. You could also be fined by the local plod for this too. Points on your licence and a slice of your wedge too.

I take it you have checked all the fuses are in place and that the ABS modulator is getting 12v? You have to be spot on with the voltage check, less than 10.4v will put the light on. Seem to remember the 202's had issues with earth points, may be worth pulling them apart and cleaning the under bonnet ones if the ABS unit has 12v.

Let us know how you get on.

I am not so silly as to drive it at this time :). The MOT is out of time and I want to be able to find the problem.
Taking it into a garage with a wiring problem to be found, let alone rectified, is too much for me at the moment.

However the light stays on even with the key out of the ignition - this is very wierd as well as slowly draining the battery.

I want to be able to test the CORRECT wire to see where and what power is coming through it, so as to ascertain WHY its on when the ignition is OFF!

So if anyone knows what the colour for the wire is I would be eternally grateful.

Thanks
Mike

Please forgive the bump - I was hoping that some people here might have access to Merc parts/repairs software and could see what the correct wire colour is??

Thanks, in desperation

Hi,
If the vehicle is not being driven and you just want to prevent battery going flat, remove the dash bulb.
Also by having the dash out you will be able to trace the bulb feed wire.
This sort of ABS fault i,m sure has arisen before "dash warning bulb staying on all the time" i think the solution for this was a new ABS pump.

You don't need working ABS to pass the MOT but if the light is on, it'll fail - that's why the light bulb was removed by the previous owner.

If you don't want to fix it then just remove the bulb, rather than faffing around with wires.

Could it be something so simple as fouled wheel sensors?

It failed its MOT because the bulb didn't light up when the ignition was switched on.
Put the bulb in and it just stayed on......

As the wire goes into one of two plugs [each of which has 20 odd wires] it is impossible to trace from the dash.

So to be able to trace the chuffing fault I need to find out which wire it is....

[The noise in the background is an old man sobbing - I HATE WIRING!]

Hi,
If you get the codes read from the diagnostic socket.
It could save you the hassle and point you in the right direction.
I was under the impression if the car had ABS it had to be working to pass the MOT.
But we live and learn.
Hope you get it sorted.

VOSA's insepction criteria for ABS syterms

This ABS inspection applies to all systems fitted as ‘standard’, and to ‘optional’ systems fitted. 1. If the vehicle is fitted with an anti-lock braking system, check that
a. a warning lamp is fitted
b. the lamp illuminates
c. the lamp follows the correct sequence of operation
Above is vosa's inpection criteria for ABS the lamp is the only part of the systerm that actually is tested.

the wiring diagram on wis is not that clear but as far as I can see the wire you are looking for is either green or green with a white tracer both appear to run to the ABS lamp hpoope that helps Steve
