Hello folks, my local indy has told me my front wishbone bushes have play in them and my lower ball joints have 'lift'.
I have just been to my local motor factors and I can buy a wishbone bush kit for £40 and ball joints are £10 each, I am fairly confident that I can do these jobs myself thus saving some cash!! anybody else done them?, are they hard to do? anything I need to know?
My car is a 1997 SLK230.

Thanks!!

You have to remove the spring, are you going to do this by using a jack and lower the wishbone slowly

The MB compressor is different in the way that it hold the spring and cannot slip, many remove the lower wishbone bolts and lower the wishbone down to slowly release the spring on a jack.

The bushes could be best fitted by and indie or MB and many will do this for you. I do not think that there is much difference in the price of a new wishbone complete with bushes

Actually Ollie just quoted me 50 more for a new wishbone with preinstalled bushings rather than replacing the bushings alone.

If you want to be kind to your mechanic new wishes are the way to go?

When i had worn inner bushes on the lower arm of my C230K i had the complete lower arm assemblies replaced, these were approx £80 each from ECP.
Wiegh that up against the £40 for the bush kit and the hassle involved to replace them, i decided complete arms were in order, your SLK lower arms are i believe the same as the C class so the price should be similar.
