Wooden gear surround on 129 SL

Hi guys, ive searched through the post to see if there's any info on how to remove the wooden console around the gear selector, the one that goes up onto the dash aswell, how do i remove this? I need to replace the ashtray cover. I guess i need to remove the stereo and heater controls, and the plastic trim around the gear selector, what else need to to be done, i can only get the trim to lift up from the ashtray end, and no more. Obvoiusly i dont want to break it!!!

On all the mercs that I have worked on which admittedly are 123s or older you remove the ashtray by opening it and pushing a tongue down. The frme can then be removed by removing two screws and diconnecting the electrical supply to the lighter/light.
