Some cameras have a built in sensor to 'know' which way the photo should be shown, whether taken in portrait or landscape mode.
If your sensor has failed it's easy to rotate the image in any photo editor or in camera editing.

It was done on my iPhone and it was the right way up when I took it and transferred it, changed when uploaded......
