A few years ago when California brought in new rules you had to change ships fuel over from heavy oil to ultra low sulphur gas oil 200 miles off the coast, some older ships could not manage to run on the ultra low sulphur gas oil, seized fuel pumps and such. One hit a bridge in San Fran. The newer ships did manage, our camless Sulzer 2009 model changed over ok.
I think a low dilution of petrol up to say 10% you could get away with but would not want to risk 25%.

This is becoming a bigger and bigger issue, when I was on the cruise ships in the early 90's emissions was becoming a thing in US waters. It was more about charging the cruise operators than anything else (and still is). I see that Norway is making all short ferry runs zero emission (at point of use, I'll hasten to add). Electric ferries are becoming big business with automatic dockside charging. Pretty good use of the technology in my eyes.

You could, but for 84L it would take a while!

I did start to try and pump the tank empty with an oil/diesel extraction pump but as said it was very slow about 1L in 10 mins. and I was not feeling very well so abandoned that idea.

I did not mention that my LV motor insurance covers misfueling but the compulsory excess on their policies (£250) is more than the cost of the job so they say most people just don't claim. Perhaps this is just a ploy to attract more sales business but if there has been damage to the engine costing more than your excess it could be worthwhile claiming.

Park your car by a travellers camp and in the morning your tank would be emptied for you, maybe a few other things as well.

£220.00 with the AA and you may have free breakdown insurance with the AA with your bank account as we did :)

You would have been fine on a 270cdi.

I would have put a litre of 2 stroke oil in and then kept topping up every time I used £10 worth to dilute it further and further.

The guys in the Scandinavian countries add up to 33% of super unleaded to their 270cdi's when the temperatures drop to -30ºc just so it starts nicely.
