Seems there is confusion even among testers regarding the 2012 'Cat' emissions test.

The new regs apparently state that step one requires that on vehicles that qualify for a full cat emissions test, a visual check for the presence of the catalytic converter is first made.

If the cat is present visually, then a BET is done. The 2012 BET (Basic Emissions Test), as far as I can find out, is no different to the current BET.
Only if the vehicle then fails the BET is a full vehicle-specific emissions test carried out. So a BET pass means that no further cat test is carried out.

This brings in Simon's point - gut the cat but leave it in place and you will pass unless you fail the BET which is no different than today's test. Remove the cat, and you will definitely be in trouble.

Just my penn'orh.

I have just been reading the comments on the Wynns EGR3 cleaner and I feel as if there may be some misunderstanding here. The spray works well under certain circumstances. First , like all these products,it is a maintenance spray not a magic cure. If you have a really choked up egr,the only solution is to strip it. Wynns will not solve your problem.
The next problem ,which seems to be overlooked, is the manifold.Stripping and cleaning the egr is only part of the problem and this is where the spray can be very useful. Stripping off the manifold is a pain.So basically if you have a moderately dirty egr & manifold this spray can really help. If it is really coked up dissasembly is the only option.
The other thing that I would like to comment on is blanking the egr which has been mentioned a few times.Be very careful. I tried deactivating mine at one point because like you I was fed up with the mess it made. My car didn't like it at all. After driving for about 8 miles it would feel as if it was suffering from sticking wast gate. Wouldn't change gear/accelerate and no kickdown.Stop and switch off for 30 secs and it drove perfectly but when I arrived you could feel and smell the heat from the turbo. Not good.
The answer that I found was to fit an oil catch tank. This had a real affect on the egr crud. I also switched to low ash oil which also helped. After 6 months of driving the egr is still really clean. Squirt some Wynns egr3 down it and it is like new.
I hope this post helped.

Just out of interest, where are you squirting your EGR3? Just in the air cleaner pipe, into the manifold via the blanking plug (IIRC) or taking the EGR out (I could never remove mine!) and cleaning manually?
