Hi all, just bought some rear license number plate xenon led kit, is there a easy way to fit these, is easier to remove the trim inside the boot lid or do I have to take the chrome trim off to gain access to them, they come as a complete unit not just the bulbs, o and it on a 2006 cls320cdi

You would normally just carefully pry them out of their location with a small flat-bladed screwdriver, making sure you don't scratch the surroundings. Then pull the unit clear and disconnect the wiring. You can see the locating lugs - 2 each side - in the photos. The flat blade might need to press them in a little to release the unit.

Refitting is the reversal to removal.

I am however more curious about the replacement lamp units. Are they xenon or LED - they can hardly be both!

That was my initial thought too - a couple of headlight power bulbs seemed a tad extreme for number plate illumination!

However, that is what a lot of LEDs are called by sellers - see http://www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/501-led-xenon-bulbs as an example.

LED is the answer

Removal of the licence plate lamps is from inside the boot. You will need to remove the boot lid panelling to release the retaining clips.

Curious, I just checked my owner's handbook and it states to replace the bulbs one removes the two screws, removes the lamp unit, replace the bulb and refit the lamp unit....

Suggest removing the two screws and see what falls out!!

That is what WIS says Peter, very unusual if there are screws, then screws it is, but I cannot see any holes

Well, Ive just looked at mine and there are two screws per light. My feeling is that these simply hold on the glass lens. The light unit is held from inside the boot, as WIS states..

The two screws only hold the cover in place, simply unscrew and remove to change bulb only, to remove the whole light assembly you have to take the trim off the boot door to gain access, then in your car has the chrome trim on the outside of the boot, like mine has you will not be able to push the light assembly out as the chrome trim stops you from doing this:mad: to get this chrome trim off is very hard, why make thing so hard.
