Hmm...just thinking...how is it that Mercs in the states get a free replacement of their Cats up to year 8 and we don't over here??? Am I being real dopey here and missing something obvious?

Class Action Against MB!!!

Sure I can understand that there is a different legal system in place but why is the end user any different here to over there....? How are the cars treated any differently? :-?

In the USA there is more onus on the manufacturer providing a working car and more to lose, if the car is not working, and the lines between whose responsibility that is, are a little blurry over in the USA. For example they have "class action" lawsuits and damages are rewarded in trimplicate (the winner gets 3x the financial loss). Compare to the UK system.

I imagine its not just Mercedes, but a generally evolved practice between all the manufacturers, in order to avoid costly legal action (which would be less costly and probably unwinnable in this country).

Another example I could cite, is the regular fitment of tyre pressure monitors in USA cars, compared to here. The tyre manufacturers are scared of being held to blame for an accident involving a blowout, even though (eg in the UK) its the responsibility of the owner to check their tyre pressures.

So basically, just because we are more conservative and less likely to sue the manufacturer en mass they feel they can strong-arm us and provide less of a service here...ridiculous...
