I have a 2001 S320 with a very noisy airmatic compressor. I have read lots of posts but am still not clear on the solution.
The suspension seems to be working fine, however as I am a bit deaf it was only when the pump got really noisy that I could here it when driving.
I have swapped the relay, but probably even if that was the problem the damage is done, so no change.
Now the real question: The pumps seems to run alot of the time when driving, especially during the initial mile or so of a journey. It seems to always stop when i come to a stand still. Is this normal?
I am happy to replace the pump, but if the underlying fault is that it is overworking and that has caused it to wear out then that isnt a fix. The other possibility is that a tired old pump on its last legs has to run more often and that a new pump will be ok.
Can anyone suggest which is more likely?
Finally I have seen statements that the new compressor will need setting up with STAR, whilst others say this isnt neccessary, does anyone have the definitive answer on that one?
Thanks in advance
Mark.
