Don't know why, but I started thinking about our first Mercedes: a W123 300D.

We were very pleased with it, but I have to admit that it felt a bit like driving a tank.

Overtaking had to be well planned ahead of pulling out  . Just found the specs: 88 HP, 0-60 in 18 seconds (when it was new).

Where did you all start?

1999 (new at the time) C240 in dark blue, with comedy patterned cloth trim.

I hated it, until i got used to it - then wouldn't have changed it for the world......... Until i met the CLK

First MB I ever drove was a 1989 190E 2.0, loan car to my old man while his Jag was being fixed. Liked it a lot but could never afford to insure one when I was younger.

My old 2004 W209 was my first MB - loved it!

A champagne 1985 500sl as a company car.
It taught me how sharp motorway bends can be at 150mph and how expensive tyres are.
If I could afford one again, I wouldn't hesitate.

At the time I was the youngest licencee in the country, with a pub, wine bar, restaurant and night club to look after.
I was very lucky and had the time of my life.

Gosh. That's a change.
Will you keep the S class so you don't have to slum it at weekends? ;)

Definitely a huge change but I decided that a new car gives me everything I want.

Don't get me wrong, the S500 is a superb car and I have loved the 40k miles that I have done in it.

However, it's an old car and on 140k miles. It's doing the usual and starting to biodegrade. When I look at the future spends on this car against it's worth then it makes a bit of sense to pass it on and start again.

I've looked at the journeys that I have made in the last year and realised that the power and fuel inefficiency just doesn't add up any more. It's nice planting the throttle and zooming off but then you realise that your licence is vital. I generally only have myself and SWMBO in the car so a 2 door seems logical.

I cannot afford a new S-Class at the moment but I am hoping that the future works well for me and that I can have one grace my drive.

For many, an E220 Cdi Sport Coupe is an aspirational car. I must not forget how good it actually is in the grand scheme of things.

Maybe a 6yo S500L spoiled me all those years ago ...

My 230 SLK is my first car. I love everything about and will upgrade to the R171 next year but hopefully keep my 170.

I will always have a Mercedes and always drive an automatic. :D

W211 E220cdi. Loved it so much I bought another 211.

I came from a V8 BMW but I've always wanted a Mercedes. I didn't like the bad quality reports of late 90s but I heard by 2004 they were ok again so got a 2005 to be safe.

I'm on Mercedes 3
