Aye well we nearly got taken out last night on the way to Birmingham by a woman looking at her phone while driving. Sailed into our lane on a roundabout.

Its stupid and dangerous and you're a twat if you do it.

Quite agree. I'd support an instant ban and destruction of the phone.

And the car for a 2nd or 3rd offence.

It is an offence that should be treated just as severely as drink/drug driving.
A £200 (maximum) and 6 points is nowhere near enough IMHO.

I do agree that it is no where near enough, should be an instant ban if caught and off the road for 1 to 2 years.

There are many Utubes out there all showing some horrific results.

Not just texting while driving - dear daughter uses her hands free system a lot, but the touchscreen has been playing up since a recent bodywork repair. This morning driving to work, touchscreen not working so she's trying to push a button instead, leans over, looses the steering and wipes out 2 tyres and 1 wheel on the high kerb. Luckily no-one hurt.

A report in the local paper this morning that driving while using a hands free mobile is the same risk as driving with a blood alcohol of 0.05 which is our limit here. According to the study, using a hands free is more distracting than having a conversation with a passenger, but this is open to challenge,so we can still carry passengers and talk to them. Just wait and see how long before "they" (the experts) apply for a Government grant to carry out more research into driver distraction.

Must stop being old and cynical!
