Rappey you miss the point mate.

Xenons are not for OFFROAD use pal ? on our types of cars....

Do you drive in fields then ? :D

Oh, and I have 3 different cars with HIDs, one has 6ks ( they are ALL philips branded ) the other 2 are both 4.3k mate, and I can asssure you the 4.3k are better for ROAD use.

For long distance use, I would use a BEAM HID 55w or some proper halogens with a proper reflector anyhow, as you'd nver get good light spread on dipped lights, which is still what these are.

Anyhow, what makes you think my comment about not looking past 20ft is aimed at you ?? unless you really don't look that far ahead when you drive ( day or night ? )

FACT, most people who "ask" for 6k, do it because they like the blue "hue" the lamp generates, rather than actually care about illumination & the lumen output of the lamp, FACT.

True some cars ( Mercs, Lexus etc.. ) do supply cars with 6k, but this is usually more for looks.

Up to you what you want in your headlights & feel free, as long as you are happy mate.

I'm just adding some advice ( balanced from an ownership view, have you experience of 4.3 & 6k kits then ( lame or not lol :D ? ) I'd be interested to hear your views, or are they massively different from mine bud ? :D )

damn ! almost forgot, from memory the 6k units are not even made as factory fit by philips, as the 4.3k units are the only legal ones IIRC, whereas anything upwards is for off road use / other applications ( no idea what that means ! ) so much so, I ended up going back to the yellower brighter 4.3ks on my 3rd car !

Taz :D

whats with this FACT ?
Seems like your opinion is FACT ?
Comes across as rather arrogant.
4300k is not the only ones legal..
I had 4.3k in car, one failed so replaced with 6000k.
With 20/20 vision and dont wear glasses will say there isnt really any noticable difference either looking at them or what you can see with them.
Daylight colour (5500-6000k) allows the eye to see better and judge distances better etc..(look into this!)
Just because a lamp gives out more lumens does not mean you can see better with it.

Byways are off road which we sometimes use at night on atv,s
A spot and a flood illuminates everything @5600k for max visibilty.
the atv,s headlights also have xenons.
I,m sure the off road light manufacturers have looked into this before supplying people with the best lighting spectrum possible..

:D

please tell me what else is legal then please, seeing as you are sooo easily upset pal ? :)

arrogant, doubt it, i'm just giving some of my opinions ( some are based on facts & personal experiences, like you, who likes all terrain vehicles ? ).

anyhow, I'll let you vent your anger....

off you go mate. :p

Xenon bulbs

Hi Guys
Sorry I inadvertently seemed to have upset a Hornets Nest over this query and that was not my intention or the aim of the Thread, I had no idea what the difference was between my original 4300k HID Bulbs and 6000k HID Bulbs, just trying to match the colour of my new Canbus LED sidelight bulbs to make all Front lights more aesthetically pleasing and of course to maintain and produce the light necessary to see clearly the road ahead without loss of illumination.
To all that have responded to my query, I would like to say a Big Thanks
Best regards

You have not upset anyone (i dont think).
I usually enjoy debates on forums and it should take a lot more than words to upset someone.
From a debate you can see both sides of an arguement and usually the reasons behind each claim giving you the opportunity to draw your own conclusion.

Lets keep FACTS and OPINIONS separate please.

AFAIK, the colour of headlamps is not restricted to a single K value, but should be yelow or white. And must be a matching pair. Main beams can differ in colour temp from Dipped.

6000k is still very white with no blue.

Daylight has a spectrum similar to that of a black body with a correlated color temperature of 6,500 K (D65 viewing standard) or 5,500 K (daylight-balanced photographic film standard).

Just been reading this thread. I fancy fitting the LED Canbus H6W suggested by Bazzer. I take it these will be fine with the existing electrics etc and just a straight replacement?

The stock sidelights are very poor next to the xenon headlights.

This thread was more about HID replacements than sidelights.

If they are canbus and your car is using canbus then yes they should be fine.

I am a little dubious of some so called canbus error free lights as they do need to sink a fair amount of current via its built in resisters in order to up the loading.

Later ones (imo better) have a built in heat sink to dissipate some of the heat.

Xenons

Hi
The LED Canbus Sidelights are easy to fit and with mine, were a Direct Replacement for my original Bulbs which looked a dull yellow against my Headlight Xenons, I have definately found them to be 100% better in all respects.
Good Luck & Best regards

Not yet Bazzer, not even ordered them! I need to sort the RH headlamp out first - found one at £140, offered a bit lower but he's not budging so I'll have to bite the bullet. Also need a LH front fog (cracked, new one £30 from fleaBay).

Bazzer,

I ordered the lights you suggested and fitted them today. Quick, easy fix and look great compared to the old 'yellow' ones. I do notice the different colours which you mentioned but not too bad. I'll be interested to see how you get on with your 6000k replacement headlights.

Miffy,

What exactly is canbus? I have no idea but I know my car is almost identical to Bazzer's and I've had no issues with the lights, so I'm assuming they'll be fine.

canbus is the communication system used in the older mercs. But I think the lighting tests are the same be it canbus or most.

Sorry CAN bus is the standard modern way of sending signals around the car, for both function and fault finding, came into being on MB's in a small way in 1996 roughly. Modern cars can have 3 or 4 CAN busses

Most is a fibre optic system used ín cars for radio and sat nav and this superseded the D2b system that went out in 2004. The Most system is some 20 times faster the D2b and can handle 10 times the amount of things in the ring

Xenon Light Bulbs

Hi Toby
Have you asked Colin or Dave at MBS to see if they know where you might be able to get a secondhand H/Light and Fog Light, they are a knowledgeable couple of Guys and just might be able to help and with the amount of customers they have, one of them may have what you are looking for, worth a try. and I'm sure they will pleased to give you a price to fit them.
