I'd seen the advert on autotrader for a bit but no photo's. Must have been on another site. What a shame to ruin the car like that. Could easily be put right. As an aside, early rise for me in the morning with a 2 hour drive to see another CL600, hopefully get there for 9am before anyone else sees the car for the first time on the forecourt. Viewing, test drive, negotiation, agreement, deposit, sorted!........with a bit of luck!

I find it incredible that someone can buy so elegant a car and then effectively disfigure it. Reminds me of perfectly nice-looking people who cover themselves with tattoos.

Good luck tomorrow, and please let us know how you get on.

Well I've had a lot of help on here, and you guys have sort of helped my decision firstly towards the CL, when I had been considering others, and then helping my listen to my own consciousness in terms of avoiding a potential pup. So of course I'll post an update post viewing, and hopefully some photo's once bought. :)

Well I didn't know an awful lot about the CL when I started looking at the possibility of buying one, but what I have learnt since, and reinforced today is the CL600 is neither a 500 or 600 pretending to drive or look like anything else. Instead it is it's own car in it's own right, and what a special car it was. Having test driven a couple of 500's and likewise CL63's, I'd probably liken it to having the best of both worlds; the comfort of the CL500, and the performance of the CL63!

So after rising at 6am for a two hour drive, a two hour viewing, test drive and then a two hour drive back home, I should add that in the middle of there somewhere was the exchange of a deposit and various details, with pick up of the motor hopefully Friday once the V5 has been returned to them from the DVLA.

Unfortunately they drove a hard bargain on price, and with interest from others it was difficult to lever much from them, but I got a bite and got the 3 month warranty extended to 12 months as part of the deal. So I'm happy with that.

What I will ask of others however; one minor issue which I've asked them to look at, and if anyone here can cast any light on things it would be appreciated. Ok, the car hadn't been driven for a few days so perhaps it was cold, as things did improve, however when driving feathering the accelerator there seemed to be a low vibration from the engine. When I put my foot down it became less discernable. Is this normal? Is it because the car just wants to be driven harder? Was it because it was cold, afterall with time it did seem to improve. Or, given there's 12 cylinders, could one of them possibly not be firing? On a four cylinder car it's easier to recognise as 1 of 4 is easier to spot as opposed to 1 of 12. Any ideas? Anyway, I've asked them to get it on the diagnostics to see if there's anything there.

Other than that, what a lovely car. Smooth, pacey, comfortable, sporty, refined, great condition, genuine, good deal. I'm a happy man. All I need now is all the paperwork to stack up and I'll be heading back across the M62 to pick up my new car.

Once again forum, thanks a lot for your assistance and guidance with this lovely car!

You have done 53 post and not a single post point :D:D, and this must be a record. but the end has come, well done, maybe I should look at one;)

Re the vibration, it could be something touching where it should not,,or an engine mount failed. You should feel nothing with a V12

Congratulations again.

agree with Malcolm, congratulations, I do feel somewhat personally happy for you!On the vibtarion, yes, should be smooth as silk in the V12 with vibration free (just guttural growl when pushed)- might be worth getting under and seeing the front exhaust mount, could be something simle loke that as the car may have sat for a while.....anyway happy days and good times!

I've been told before Malcolm that my ear is oversensitive to car noises and vibrations, so perhaps it's nothing, but I'll be getting it checked. The car seemed solid, genuine, no quirky plate or mileage issues, and it's from a good national reputable chain of garages, and piece of mind is worth an awful lot!

As an aside, what do you mean by "not a single post point"? Believe it or not this is the first forum I have ever been on so not familiar with the lingo.

I'll post a couple of photo's once I pick the car up. :)

Great choice, can't beat a twin turbo V12..

I think this must be a record for the longest introduce yourself thread!

we all get a point every time we post in most sections, but not on this section.

If you look at your details at the top it has "Post 0" then you can see others.

Once you get 30 points you get the PM facility.

Only a daft thing as I cannot recall such a long thread with zero post points.

Ha ha, nevermind. Like i said, I'm a bit of a Forum novice, so it looks like I should have posted elsewhere and not the "introduce yourself".

Oh well, the help here has been invaluable for me!

May I add my congratulations. The CL is a fabulous car and the 600 is the ultimate refinement of the range - you will love it for sure.

As has already been well said, the V12 should be completely smooth irrespective of revs. Once you've taken delivery it will be well worth having the car checked over by a specialist independent - I'm sure there must be one or more relatively local to you.

Thank you for offering to post some photos. How about whetting our appetites with a few details in the meantime? Age? Mileage? Colour?

I Belive MB Tech in Warrington are excellent, there is also an Indy in Liverpool close to MB Liverpool (I think called MB-Liverpool, don't know much about them), also a couple over here in on the Wirral - I used one of them on my old W203 seemed OK but I think 'run of the mill, dont think they'd be specialist enough for your V12)...

Well a purchase at the end of it :) Splendid.

CL600 supercar eh? Not jealous at all .... Ahem ;-)

Lets have some pics up as soon as practically possible chap, can't wait to see this one. Also many thank for keeping us informed along the way and taking note of our suggestions and pointers.

I'm sure this will be quite the affair with Mercedes and a great way to join the fold. Now about that quad exhaust conversion ..... ;-)
