Having a larger sidewall will make your speedo read incorrectly. The only way to have a larger sidewall and an accurate speedo is to reduce the wheel size.

As I use oversize sidewalls I lose the speedo 10% under reading at 30mph.

My SL now read spot on at 30mph

What tyre sizes are you now using?

Something is puzzling me regarding my SL500 and its original build sheet. The car was ordered with the AMG Styling Package and according to the online VIN decoders the following wheels............

664 LIGHT ALLOY WHEEL 7-HOLE STAR DESIGN 17 INCH

What puzzles me is why would someone spec standard 17" wheels with the AMG package? Surely anyone going for the AMG look would have also spec'ed AMG wheels. I'm wondering if the online decoders have misinterpreted the code for the wheels.

My best friend has a new 222 with every possible extra and includes 17" wheels

Boot lid struts replaced today so now the boot lid raises easily and stays open. The old struts were clearly worn out even though they still feel pretty tough to push close, in fact i cant push them closed.

Its the cold weather that finds the bad struts.

Whats the going rate for a pair of struts, I like that mine don't open the boot when unlocked as I leave boot unlocked to access rear battery, and am bothered that if it opens then the way the garage door opens it will catch the boot.
If they are cheap enough I may give it a go.

I bought mine from MB Grangemouth for £70 the pair plus £5 delivery. The issue i had was the boot was hard to push open but wouldn't stay open.

I got mine on eBay £25 delivered for the pair. Work as they should no probs.

The boot doesn't fly open like you described when you open the boot.

Is that the bottom as in on the floor in the car or the bottom of the box?

Air box drain cleared, i didn't do the mod recommended on this forum as i couldn't get full access to the end of the drain pipe but i was able to push a flexible curtain wire up the pipe and clear out the blockage.

Have you checked for damp under your carpet. If water is in the box it will be under the carpet unfortunately.

It could be OK for years, I do not think that mine is altered.

All checked and no water under the carpet, it's not even damp.
