Me too. If you do this throughout the year then when it's service time it seems free as you already have everything to hand and don't have to worry about things being out of stock.

Good call, I really do this because I am the tightest git around......Even my Misses calls me a tight bas%*^ oops I mean, old person
I even have 6 litres of Mobil one ready for 8900mls to next service

That's my kind of shopping. I have 1100mls to next B service and only have a gearbox dipstick to buy. Some good thoughts on sourcing here. I'm ashamed to say I recommended a merc dealer that I had found cheap for parts, but it turned out their dipsicks were expensive (its a tool not a part??????)

Ambient outside temperature sensor

My ambient outside temp sensor has been reading too high over the last few weeks by about 10-15 degrees C so I purchased a new one and it has fixed the problem. My temp now reads fairly accurately when compared to my ML so job done. I have posted this info because when I was looking online for solutions lots of posts stated that the sensor either works or reads ridiculously high with nothing in between but that was not the case for me so if you do have high or low temp readings try changing the sensor, £15 on ebay.

So when the time comes do you do your own servicing or take it to a garage and supply the parts? Or do some of it yourself and let the garage do the rest?

I do most things myself. It gives me a chance to play with my toys. There will be somethings I won't try. The week I bought the w203 I had the gearbox serviced. She was 10 years old & had done 45000 without a service. By the time she needs it again I might be confident enough to have a go myself, following the instructions on here. As long as I am not too infirm. The only other thing I paid to have done was a break fluid flush. I was looking forward to having a go, but the garage I use for my MOT had an offer on, a complete flush for £20. Compared to the cost of dot4+ and a self bleeding kit there was no choice. Again watch this space in 2 years time. Unless I finally give in to all of the seductive posts on SLs and treat myself to an upgrade. (I know I want to, I know I can't afford to.)

I took the car to Merc for a free spring health check. This inspection covers all of the things that a B service say needs checking. It gave me a few jobs to do which I did before the MOT. My Haynes manual also give a few things to check not included in the A or B service. I check all fluids every month anyway, takes less than 5 mins. It seems to me that an A service is just a quick look & an oil & filter change.

Good luck and it needs doing as it was never done as part of any service.

Would you believe it, after 3 months of no leaks I find this morning that I have a leaking boot seal :(. I guess all the rain we had last night just made its way past the seal. Luckily I have been keeping towels in the boot just in case so no damage done.

Glad to hear no fldamage was done, these cars have too many sensors and water will damage them.

Boot lid struts replaced today so now the boot lid raises easily and stays open. The old struts were clearly worn out even though they still feel pretty tough to push close, in fact i cant push them closed.

I have just done mine, the boot would only stay up if you held it open
£25 and the jobs a good'n' I could push the struts closed just by pushing them with my weight
These also come with a 3 year warranty....We'll see.

I replaced mine a few weeks ago and I couldn't move the old ones at all when pushing against a wall. Still, the new ones are behaving themselves. I went original and paid a lot more than £25!

After lots of searching I can not find where my boot seal has leaked and last nights heavy rain did not leak into the boot so I am a bit stumped, however, this morning I noticed a lot of water just under the "c" pillar and managed to find the drains both of which were blocked so maybe that was the cause of the leak last week. Will have to monitor further.

More than likely to be the cause, at least these are easier to clear.

Hopefully were the cause, will monitor for now.

I didn't know where the drains were and only found them when the pool of water had formed, they were full of crud but the old faithfull curtain rail did a great job, i manged to push the rail about 24" into the drain on both sides.

Hopefully you then made the opening clear at the bottom ;)

I did, the muck and water flowed nicely, i also flushed some water through which drained very quickly.
