The 2020 MB (W11) will not look like that, the car is a W10 in the new livery

This DAS red herring - which I'm sure it is.
I notice that Lewis was using it in the full knowledge that he was being filmed, yet when Bottas set by far the fastest lap, he didn't use it at all.
I reckon that Merc is hiding another innovation by diverting attention away from the real deal and focusing it on this DAS nonsense.
Second practice session this week will reveal more, but I bet it's not used when the glory laps are driven.

Agree completely that drivers should never be penalized for mechanical faults. Let the teams take the rap - they provide the car after all.
As for the 'three engine per season' rule - why?

There’s doubt it will go ahead this weekend as some team members are being tested for the virus

It's to try to limit costs so the well funded teams can't produce single use race engines where everything is turned up to the max leaving the less well funded teams to run lower powered engines for several races. In theory it also makes for closer racing as a result.

Don't forget the Qualifying engines they also had with Qualifying tyres, they used to do 3-5 engines a weekend

Yep. In those days mechanics really worked for their money...

Yup but engines were quite easy to change
Can you remember the way a race was filled with exploding engines? The turbo era in particular made for some serious blowups and decimated fields.

I can, remember sitting with my dad watching it, 1500bhp in quali trim, as Mansell said "The car was waiting to kill you"

It's what you get when you have 1,500 HP from 1,300cc

I remember being at the British Grand Prix, I think it must have been 1994'ish. Martin Brundle's Peugeot V10 exploded right in front of us just yards from the start line, maybe only to be expected of a Peugeot. There then ensued the biggest cloud of smoke you've ever seen completely engulfing us all that were on the start line !!

My point was badly made.
Three engines seems so marginal, why not give a bit of slack - certainly limit the number, but be a little more generous.
The fans want unfettered racing, not engine saving modes every few races to eke out the engine's life so that some false penalty gets applied.

I agree, done for cost saving as these modern F1 engines are incredibly expensive, £12m for a seasons supply. They have increased the allowance of MGU-K this year to 3 again

I remember them saying the same about Group B rally cars. It might even have been Henri Toivenen (who was the last fatality in a Group B car and whose accident led to them being banned) who said something along the lines of "Group B cars go faster than you can think. By the time you've reacted to the car you're either in the accident or past it".

Damon Hill Drove Nigel Mansells FW14b on Sky, if you can find it well worth a watch

Well, there seems to be some doubt that the F1 season will even begin, as the Oz GP has now been called off, the Bahrain GP is in doubt, as is the Vietnam race.

Just think of the financial problems the FIA now faces - reimbursement, lost income for the teams, wrangling over contractual obligations, problems with sponsors who are losing publicity they've paid for, drivers being paid even though they're not racing ... I can see the spats and the rumblings going on all year.
