Me -2019 GLC 350 coupe AMG line. Mrs- ford kuga 65 plate awd powershift .
I'm curious why they quoted discs + pads then also pads on their own? Presumably giving you the choice...but if they thought discs were needing replaced then pads should be done at same time.

Its multi choice for me to tick the boxes what id like doing.

My son’s W213 E class 220d goes in for an A service and MoT this week so at 46k miles it will be interesting to see what else is thrown up by the visual inspections and software updates

Merc dealers always say pads and disks at the same time.

They said the same to me although the pads needed doing the disks didnt. These non service items are for my Indy. Had the pads done and the disks are still on there 4 years later.

You sound like the kind of owner that Mercedes loves ;)

When you retire, you have to do what you enjoy. I only worked on cars in the days when I couldn't afford to pay someone else to do it. Working on cars gives no satisfaction.

As far as I'm concerned it's all part of the ownership experience, getting to know your car and maintaining it, all part of the fun. Plus it costs me a fraction of what MB charge and being a tight wad Scotsman that suits me just fine. :D ;)

I don't want to know my car that intimately.:)

Though I pay others to do more jobs on my cars than I used to, I do quite enjoy working on cars. :)

Having said that, EmilysMum's car will be going to the dealer soon for rear discs & pads as they are quoting about £30 more for a fitted price than the cost of the parts ..... having played with rear brakes in the past where the handbrake operates the pads it sounds like a bargain to me. :D

I cannot be ar$$ed to muck around in/under the car. I checked the price of my next two services at MB and decided on a 3 year contract (with a discount for up front payment) for just over what my next service is going to cost (at their prices). So 3 services (overcharged) for the price of one - I'm quite happy not to have to do it myself.

Life is too short for greasy hands.:)
Life feels a lot longer with greasy hands , it’s a win win :D

2 pairs of pads to one set of disks

A Haynes manual will give you all the intervals for all service items, (as well as how to do it). I copy this page and use it as a checklist and fill in all the dates & mileages for the next change of each item, makes it easy to keep track of when things need doing. I have the good fortune to like doing it and being too mean to pay anyone else if I can manage it myself. Eg did my rear springs myself, paid to have a front spring changed (much more difficult job). Heaven help me when I have to get a newer more complicated car or can no longer grovel about on the drive.:):)

Mercedes use TRW for brake discs and pads. Download the autodoc app and you can order them there. A set of front discs and pads for my e class is £125 for exactly the same that mercedes will fit. Any local garage will be about £50 to fit if you don't fancy doing it yourself.

Thanks. I will have look.
But .... just because brand A makes for manufacture X doesn't mean that all their parts are the same. As I often quote .... Heinz makes HP beans but they're different from Beanz ;)

Autodoc are good. Everything I have bought so far has been 'proper'. Only problem is choice.
On brake pads they list as model specific for my AMG - 58 different front pad sets priced between £14 and £65 per set of 4 fronts.
TRW are middle range at £28.

I use their online chat and my VIN number for anything I need. Saves me hunting around too much?

The last two CLK's I had both did over 115K miles. One set of discs & two sets of pads front each, no discs rear & one set of pads each.

I have just picked mine up after a B service, pleasantly surprised with a £349.80p bill. That’s an M.B indy garage.

you can see what needs doing referring to the service book, using the online ess, depends on mileagae and age of the car.
