Well in that case it is just as I originally said in my first reply to you - when you turn off auto lights on your Mercedes it behaves exactly the same as your wifes Corsa - no rear lights. No just front DRLs
Then you replied saying "what ever I do with the SL's light switch I can't drive with no rear lights on in poor visibility"
This made me think you had rear DRL because if not and your light switch is set to off then the rear lights are off. I can see now you are actually sayng that you would choose to turn your lights on in poor visibility so that your rear lights are on and not just the front DRL.
There has been a lot of confusion going on here but I think we can both agree that if a vehicle has auto lights then there is no logical reason not to use them. One can still choose to override it on occasion but the default position should always be to auto.
I mentioned about my previous Audi having both front and rear DRL, which together with auto lights makes the whole thing completely foolproof.
Rear DRL are only in conjunction with LED lights, but more and more cars are coming with rear LEDS now so this would not be a problem to implement.
I'm glad we got there in the end.
