Key fob repair worked

Dear anyweb
Many many thanks for your instructions on repairing the broken key fob.

I picked a S600 coupe the other day and only one of the keys worked. When I dismantled the other one I found the same problem as you, the switch was broken loose inside. With a bit of solder and a steady hand I repaired it and now I have two working keys. Brilliant. Thankyou so much for your original post. You must have saved forum members many hundreds of pounds (I have been told that replacement keys are now around £200).

What a wonderfully useful site this is.

Hi, I have a problem with my E230 key fob which has ceased to function and I don’t have a spare, help!
The design is exactly as per that on this thread. I have opened the case and have found a rectangular component, black, approx 10x5x2mm rattling about inside. The writing on it has partially worn off I can just make out 'Thailand' and what looks like a Philips logo. It looks like it would have originally had a leg on each end as it has copper showing at these positions. I would like to either identify or source the component or have a go at dropping some blobs of solder onto each end to see if they will adhere to the copper 'stumps' in order that I can join on some link wires and re-fix it to the pcb. Although the pictures posted on this thread are very clear they don’t show the reverse side of the circuit board (i.e. not the push button side) where I suspect this component was originally fixed. It is very strange as I would have expected that the snapped off legs would have stil been attached to the circuit board, I have looked with a magnifying glass but there doesnt seem to be any evidence of this!
I would be really grateful if someone could add a detail photograph of the reverse side of the pcb so I can try and work out where the loose component came from and hopefully I can put it back! Thanks.

You key is not the same if the coil has broken off, them a new coil required as the wires will be too short to re solder.

Yours will be a DAS key with the transponder, the locking will still work, but the car will not start.

Best to get a key from Ebay and transfer the coil

Thet PCB in the picture is not the same, but you can see the coil

E230 Keyfob

Hi, here is a picture of the offending article, you can see the little black component that I found loose inside. Hope this helps to clarify the problem.

Apart from the Philip emblem I cant tell what it is, there will be mark on the pins to show where it was fitted, it is an SMD component

If anyone cold post a picture showing the same model key pcb with the component in its rightful place it would be a help. If they could read the text on theirs, even better! Just missed one on eBay which I thought could be a component donor, will keep an eye out for another.

Dont forget that there are about 5 different versions that all look the same from the outside

If it is possible to put the piece back on I can do it, but not if the legs are broken off

Just on a separate issue, it looks to me that the battery’s are installed the wrong way around, or is that just a temporary set up for the photo?

Using anywebs picture of the other side of the PCB it would seem their just isn’t any space other than in the illustration for something that size to fit, I don’t think it belongs in there at all, why it should exist is a mystery.
Any chance that the problem is simply dead batteries or incorrectly fitted batteries?

Malcolm that’s the one at the very bottom of picture, I cut it out and superimposed on the PCB just to illustrate where it could fit, that is if it dose belong in there.

hi! thank u for welcoming me, i have my keyfob working now. but i have to really point it very close to the reciever at the rear view mirror and its not working when i point it at the reciever at the doorhandle. i notice when i dismantle my keyfob the bulb is not attach. when i put the keyfob together i try to sit the bulb at its place and that work. is that have something to do with the range of my keyfob? is there something wrong with the receiver at my doorhandle or with my keyfob? do you know how to remove the door panel of a c280? :D

If you could find a TV service man who could solder the bulb back on as already suggested.
What year is the car?
Do you have a Green and Red LEDs on mirror and door handle?

No bulbs they are LEDs when you say one is loose , the one at the end. that is the IR sender, that works via the door handles
