Thanks for that info- it will be useful. However, in order to gain access to the top catch presumably I need to remove the inner 'plastic shell'. There appear to be no screws etc but having removed the light I can still only pull it out approx. 1". Any thoughts?
Also can you recommend a workshop manual for this 1990 300sl ?
Thanks for your help, Geoff.

Had a go at removing the CD storage box just now - made a couple of pulling hooks and the plate thing. Trouble is it gets stuck on the Aux input jack which is on the side of the (inside of the) glovebox. I unclipped the side (i.e. the trim next to the door) and it doesnt look entirely straightforward to remove the jack socket...

Ideas?

There is no way the CD storage unit will budge past the Aux socket as it stands.

Just an update - I managed to remove the Aux socket in the end and fix the catch.

First remove the bit of interior trim between the glovebox and the door (pops off). Then you have to unscrew the little metal collar on the Aux jack on the inside of the glove box (small screw driver or the special tool) and then the plastic collar which clips into the side of the glovebox sort of pulls off (its in two parts) allowing the plastic part which goes through the side to be pulled through. This means the cd storage unit can then be removed using a homemade plate and pull hooks (watch out for it catching on the screw which holds the cd changer in). Once thats out you can unscrew the cd changer screw (torx screw) and the cd changer sort of pivots out of the glovebox. I removed the two sets of wires from the back of the changer (actually one is the fibreoptic pair). Then you have access, finally, to the screw which lets you adjust the position of the glovebox catch. phew. Fiddle about with this for a while to get it just right (remember you can adjust the two rubber buffers on the front of the inside of the glovebox to take up any slack). Do it all in reverse to put it back together!

I've got the broken glovebox catch problem on my 05 clk and have managed to obtain a used glovebox. Any help with details of how to remove the old part and fit the new one would be much appreciated!
