Can we make it sound like a V6?

So just got my first ever Merc this week and it's a C350 CDI. Really loving it after getting a few things sorted, but I've noticed that it seems quite tame for a V6. Sounds like it's missing some grunt. Is that only achieved with an expensive exhaust upgrade?

Unfortunately without going the costly synthetic acoustic sounding exhaust system route,in a word,no.

Its diesel.

Heard a Kufatec sound booster before, no thanks lol. There are plenty of diesels that sound great, must have sportier exhausts. The missus A7 sounds great, just think my car sounds a bit pathetic :(

i'm tempted to remove the rear silencers on my 350 cdi, that will free up some noise! But then again, i'm a weirdo that actually likes the sound of Diesel engines - especially V6's

It's sounds very tame to me, like a normal 2.0tdi or something. Maybe I'll get used to it

Unfortunately diesel engined cars sound like tractors and removing exhaust components just makes them sound like loud tractors. Manufacturers are very good these days with deadening the diesel sound from the cars interior but get out and you will hear what everyone else hears. :)

If you want a great sounding engine get a petrol V12, if you want a really good sounding engine get a petrol V8, if you want a nice sounding engine get a petrol V6, everything else is just......... well you know! o_O

Diesel engines are a false economy IMO. You may get decent fuel economy but that pales into insignificance when you compare it to the smiles value you will get from a V12 or V8. :D

This is how a Audi V6 3.0 TDI gets on .

Some just doctor the internals .

Original .

2 forms of modified .
audi-a6-c7-avant-quattro-30-tdi-13.jpg

^ Better sounding I would imagine .

^ better flow than original but still acting as a muffler .

Then there's a full system .

So you can always tune to how loud you want it.

NOTHING sounds as good as a Cummins....Fact !
Unless it's petrol powered...

The biggest issue with diesels us the turbo acts as a restriction hence quietens exhaust and can provide a nasty shhhh sound. An NA or supercharged petrol doesn't have that issue and also revs higher allowing the engine to sing rather than just give a gruff thrum.

Each to their own I suppose, I find the sound of most V8's-V12's quite dull.
