109d 2.5 G reg DipStick Oil Level Problem

This may seem a strange question, but when I pull the dipstick out to check the oil level I can't really judged how full or indeed empty it is. On one side it has oil about 3/4 of the way between the red plastic tip and the red plastic full indicator, but on the other side the oil is nearer the tip. I am warned not to over-fill with oil, but have no way of judging the levels correctly.
Even when I have cleaned the the dipstick it reads like this.

With other cars I have had, it was obvious on the dipstick what level of oil was in the engine.

Can anyone help me?
