Not so fast young man. It's important that you understand where you went wrong with the hat issue in order to prevent you from making similar mistakes in the future. It's quite simple, you should have bought your other half a matching pork pie and all would have been well. The leaking sunroof wouldn't be an issue either. :)

Aah - the epicurean solution. Why didn't I think of that? Steps would have to be taken to keep the pork pie dry though. Maybe a small umbrella stuck in its top? Or possibly a beret to give it a certain je ne sais pas?

Try (don't laugh) Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure. http://www.captaintolley.com/
Pour it in the drain hole and it should seek out the cracks in the hose and seal them. I think it's a diluted PVA adhesive so you could also try diluting PVA adhesive with water so that it's runny enough to flow without blocking the pipe. Worth a try.

Phil

Emailed the company yesterday and got a phone call this morning from a very enthusiastic gentleman (I think it may have been the good captain himself). Anyway, a useful conversation so I'm going to give it a try. He was at pains to point out that I should ensure there are no partial blockages in the hose as the Creeping Crack Cure (CCC) could bung up the whole works.

Then you should be able to test this with a length of strimmer cord, either from pushing it up or down

Another good way of unblocking (or at least confirming the absence of a blockage) is to obtain some insulated electric wire, about 1mm2 should be OK depending on the internal diameter of the drain hose. This is stiff enough to push along but flexible enough to go around some bends (if not too sharp) - maybe try using this as a 'rod' first just to be sure.

Thanks for the tip and sorry so long in saying so - have been away for a few days. Am currently waiting for it to stop raining long enough for the hose to dry out so that I can try the Captain Tolley solution. Patience is a virtue.

Back on the case now that it's stopped raining. Found one cause of water in passenger footwell was the hose on the bottom of the windscreen drain had become disconnected so water was running down the engine side of the bulkhead and into the cabin through a cable hole. Fixed that but still water getting in from the sunroof drain hose.

I now have access to the EPC and note that the hose in question is 1100mm long, which means it ends about three inches below the bottom of the windscreen. That suggests that it comes out in the gap between the inner and outer wings and that the water just runs down the front of the door pillar and out the bottom somewhere. Can that be right? And does anyone know how you'd get to it in order to check if it's blocked?

An update on this thread: due to the appalling weather I tucked the car up in the garage and continued to ponder where the front drain hose emerges. Mystery finally solved by The Crooner's post a couple of week's ago about changing the front wing - there's the hose in the top of the door pillar - thanks Crooner, very useful.

main.php

Peering through the gap between the wing and the door I discovered there was no hose! I guess that when the car was resprayed about five years ago (before I owned it) they must have pushed it back through the hole and then been unable, or forgot, to put it back again. I was unable to locate the hose to get it back through so found a piece of plastic pipe that fitted tightly through the spigot at the top end and fed it through until I could snag it with a piece of wire and lead it out through the hole. Sealed the top end to the spigot with silicon and Bob's-yer-uncle no more water in the footwell. Well, almost, there's a very small amount coming from the centre of the bulkhead somewhere (I have cleared the drains). So, thanks Crooner and everyone else who contributed, problem solved :):):)
