hi all
mi old 190,d 5 cylinder has devoloped a core plug leak.

its under the exust manifold, on the block and its the first one in from the gearbox end of the engin.

the core plug looks diffrent to the standard, knock out, knock in type,as it has a hexegon nut head in the middle of the plug,ie so as two fit a socket on to unscrew.

just before i dive in with the spaners, can any body advise if it is indeed screwed into the block and if its a standard rh thread ?

many thanks Steve ,in a fizzin hot Almeria, layed under an old merc trying to get the down pipe off :),with mi mrs saying is the car fixed yet !

Yes it screws in, yes, it's RH thread. It is also very tight indeed. You'll probably damage it during removal, so, perhaps it's better to obtain a new one before you start.

It is where you could install the optional electrical coolant heater.

Smart + others :)
It'll be very tight and corroded in, you might have to cut it out. plan for the car to be off road for a couple of days just in case.

hi
thanks for the info,i thought abought warming it up,then trying a 22m socket & strong bar.

it does look a bugger to get out,im hoping this might have been my water loss issue,as the car has been loosing a litre a week with no apparent leak.

i thought the head had gone, becuase it runs at a high pressure but the new cap dosent blow out water from the header,so hopfully it just might have been 2 weeping core plugs.

i will report back once ive got it up running again !

cheers
steve :)
