Hi. I have a 190 L reg 2.0 with 110K on the clock. After some overheating problems the fan switch was replaced but it still goes high in traffic, so I bridged the fan switch (now the fan is on always) will this decrease my fuel consumption as the engine is running cold and not at optimum temperature? I would be grateful for any help. Thanks

Why not try another fan switch, as your gage will rise in traffic to about 90-95oC And when driving it should be between 80-85oC it might be a faulty switch did you change the thermostat As they can become faulty after a car has overheated. hope this helps.

the problem is not being addressed by simply putting a secondary switch in "thought this is considered a very good idea" if there is a problem, does the fan cut in when its up to temp without you bridging the fan wires, is the water boiling over if not and the fan cuts in then there is no problem most cars do get very hot in traffic jams but as long as the fan cuts in its ok if it dosnt then check all fuses and relays and temp stat

yes the fan does cut in when up to temp a new switch was fitted, a new fuse was fitted and some of the hoses were tightened the coolant was replaced and the radiator checked. my temp gauge goes up to and slightly beyond the mark between 80 and 120oc. it just uncomfortable to see it get that hot so I have decided to bridge the gap and make the fan come on all the time- im just wondering if that will effect the fuel consumption as the engine is running cooler than normal? thanks
