I have a 2.5 D manual and am not technically minded. When I bought mine it was a priority to find an independent Merc specialist who wouldn't rip me off if there was a problem. If you're also not similarily mechanically gifted or don't get many replies here, I'd suggest you tell people where you live and ask if they know a Merc specialist near you that you can give them a few quid to narrow down the problem. I know this doesn't answer your immediate problem, though! I"d be interested to know what is the cause of it when it's sorted eventually.

Regards

Adrian

Lots of air coming out fuel tank is normal on a MB. Has fuel pump relay been checked? It would cause intermittent cut out if faulty. Don't know much about diesel engines though.
