Hi all, I have recently aquired a 1986 190E 2.3 16v. It is a little rough around the edges but I intend on smoothing it out. When idling/on tick-over it tends to 'surge', I have been told that this is common. It does quite often stall. What could it be? Idle control valve need cleaning out? Your help would be much welcome!

Cheers, Blakes

Rough idle when cold could be Aux air valve if defective and not opening, airflow sensor wrongly adjusted or binding-sticking, a leaky cold injector or the injector are sticky giving an uneven spray pattern.
when warm, airflow sensor sticking, leaking cold start valve, idle control valve sticky.
