Dear wise ones,

I've noticed that the oil filler cap on my '92 2.6 190 is leaking a little. Common? It's also really hard to get off and looks like someone (weaker than me!) has used mole-grips or something to get it off previously. I've ordered a new one from Dronsfields but has anyone got any thoughts? I have been giving the old girl some boot recently on nice runs down to the west country. I noticed that the black 'paint' that is on the head has gone in a couple of places where the cap goes, could this lessen the seal?

Thanks,

PS - am ****** loving the car. I drive like a good boy with the car in 'E' and spot a nice bit of road, put her in 'S' (I wish this stood for 'Sport' rather than 'Standard') and then ya have a 2-stage booster! what a motor!

oil filler cap leaking

mine has gone also,i think eventually the seals do go but it doesn't bother me that much..after 16 years on the road and 120,000 miles i think a leaky oil filer cap isn't much of a inconvenience.

Normal enough problem, cap very tight and leaking. Replaced my cap on my 230 and sorted it. A guy told me that in Germany main dealers replace the cap everytime the do an oil change, how true this is Im not sure but is an inexpensive part.

Hmm, maybe I´ll have to replace mine at the 230CE then as it´s leaking somewhat and is very tight. And I´ve also got the same paint problem, but maybe some sunny day this summer I´ll re-paint it with heat resistant paint.

Cheers All. That's stopped me worrying! The cap I'm getting is costing £5 from Dronsfields. Does anyone have any prices for new? if so, where from? (ie is it direct from MB). ta.

Dammit!

Cheers guys. I reckon I'll check MB first in the future - just in case. It's also the kind of thing ya want new! Lucky it was only a fiver rather than £100s!
