Hi,
I have a 1991 190E and wanted to fit a Universal Backbox to it to give it a bit more of a roar. After buying a RAGE Performance Silencer and fitting it, their is NO difference at all :(.

I even removed the back box and started it up so their was no rear silencer on it at all and it sounded no different.

Does anyone know where its getting silenced at and if possible what could I do to reduce the silence and make it louder ;)

You have a large box in the center.

I do not think that you will get away with a straight pipe, more sporty yes

Is it possible to smash / break up a silencers internals up by hitting it with a hammer?

Eeeerrrr NOyou can shove something up it and break all of the baffles, it will rattle something awful. you could slice a hole along the box, open it up and take out all of the baffles, then weld up. the noise would get you stopped by the first Policeman, the choice is yours.

:(

looks like I might just have to take it to the local Custom Exhaust Speacalists and see what they can do while keeping it Legal. Maybe they could fit a custom Mid silencer to make it louder while not making it too loud.

Now to Try and weld the Original back on in time for work tomorrow :) hehe

Thanks for the help :D

I do not know where you are, but there are lots of firms like TOP GEAR who will fit a custom exhaust.

Whereabouts are you mate? I've got a stainless exhaust system off my 190e 2.6 up for grabs (downpipes to o2 sensor are original, but from lambda back it's stainless - cat removed - made by Powerflow, with a lifetime guarantee!). It's quiet enough most of the time, but it gives a nice noise when you boot it....

Only removed it from my car due to me fitting an M117 5.0 V8 into it :D
