190e water contamination?

I have a 1993 190E 1.8 Auto and the coolant is contaminated with oil ..even after a good flush ....it doesn't apear to be the head Gasket ..I was told it may be the transmission fluid that is mixing with coolant through it's cooler which is inbuilt into the radiator any help would be really appreciated

dunno if there's a difference between the emulsions created by hydraulic and engine oil, anybody ?

Is it losing coolant and does the coolant system over-pressurise when cold (hoses go bar tight after two miles of driving) ?

How bad is the contamination?

it loses no coolant ...not checked for over pressurising will check tommorow ..I definatly don't think it's the head gasket as the normal signs are not apparant I think I will change the radiator just as a precaution ..and hope that works ..thanks for the reply..

Well, I had the same symptoms as you and it was my head gasket. It depends how badly it has gone, oil pressure is high enough to get oil into the coolant. I had no water in the oil at all. It had never even over heated.

If the the car has not had the correct coolant mix and not had de-ionised water in there instead of tap water- well, the gasket will go.

I think you may be right ...it looks like the head gasket but it never overheats ...no water in the oil...is it a costly job to do ? oil pressure is at 3..thats normal/good isnt' it ?
