Hello all, I hope everything is going well enough.

I've recently come into ownership of the family Mercedes. So far, I've changed out the Solex with a Weber conversion and now need to set the timing. I believe it to be too advanced right now, as it's backfiring through the carb at quick throttle movement
I was wondering about the direction of rotation of the distributor and also the proper timing for this vehicle. Again, it's a 1973 280C with the DOHC engine. It's been difficult for me to find any manuals or information in regard to the specific year and engine type (DOHC). Either the year is omitted or it does not list the engine.

In any case, I'm appreciative of any info. Thanks!

Thank you, nasher. I am in the US.

The raised numbers that I found on the block (driver's side) is 110 011 04 01.

There is a second set of numbers that appears stamped higher on the block, more towards the front of the engine (110-921-12-003299). I can get pictures of both areas, if it makes it easier. I did not check the passenger side of the motor, as I do not remember seeing any markings.

Excellent! Thank you for the help! It evens answers the question I was going to ask about the grade of oil to use.

You should check the dwell angle before the timing, which is also specified in the PDF supplied by guydewdney

msn 114/115? I started that group after getting a 114 coupe. Previously used the 123 club. At the time there did, there was only the shop forum and that was american, the US didn't get fuel injection. So I tried to get a few uk 114 owners together. I've been thinking of getting another 114, so I may put some work into getting the 114/5 group going again.

Thanks for the interest and the reply guys. It ended up being the dwell.
The timing was right on, and after adjusting the dwell it's running very well, even from quick starts.

I just purchased a 74 280C and would like to know about your Weber conversion. Any and all details appreciated.

Thanks, Ed
