1st Question: Is there a wrong way to install oil filter? Bought a Bosch oil filter. Diameter on one end is smaller than the other. I think there is only one way to install just not sure. ?

2nd Question: Why is it so difficult to find a 14mm tool to remove the oil drain plug?

I am assuming your oil filter is a metal can which is closed at one end, and has a long bolt running through it. The filter element is held within it. Yes, there is a right way and a wrong way to put the element in. If its in the wrong way, it won't go back onto the car! When I serviced mine, I made the following notes:

"When refitting filter, the oil filter housing has a spring in the bottom, which you'd need to prise out, so that you can replace the washer. The filter element needs to be fitted with the wide opening at the top (to the engine) and the narrow one at the bottom, on the spring. The oil filter should include washers for oil filter housing and drain plug; and O-ring for the top of the oil filter housing".

Also, yes its a 14mm male hex socket, Halfords superstores should have them?

Paul - I fear that Halfords dont yet have stores in Arizona, however David 14mm hex is a very common tool in the UK, perhaps if you chaps hadn't been so keen to leave the Empire a couple of hundred years ago we could have ensured you had Halfods superstores and a comprehensive tool kit :) Not to late to come back if you wish.

Sorry - I didn't realise you were in the USA, I forgot to look at the location! OK here is a tip - obtain a 14mm set screw and 2-3 14mm nuts. Screw the nuts onto the shaft. Then use this as a converter so you can use a 14mm socket to undo it. Does that make sense?
