Hi, i recently purchaesed a 1980 SL380 and i was wondering if anyone out there knew if this model would have left the factory ready to burn unleaded fuel or would it have been converted at some stage.

it should be fine

but you could always call the dealer and quote the chassis number at them and ask.
If in doubt, you can always run some redex in your tank

Thanks for the info. I thought it prudent to ask rather than wait untill i ended up with a damaged engine and serious repair bills.

Wise man to ask, and the great thing about a forum, just where did we go years ago with a question like this

Hi,
They may run on unleaded but Ithink the older models require Super+ unleaded, my C230K is 1997 and the recommended fuel for it is Super+ Unleaded.

My W123 is designed for 98RON 4 star so obviously super unleaded is the closest match, but you can retard the ignition by a couple of degrees and it is fine with ordinary unleaded.

4 star or unleaded

I have just posted a thread about this, as have been running my 280 SL on 4 star then LRP for last 7 years as was told to when i purchased it, but since then all garages seem to have stopped selling it. Is everyone sure that can run my 280 SL 1983 model on unleaded, as would solve all my problems. Thanks
