1987 190E 2.0 liter benzine: leaded or unleaded?

I bought a 1987 190 E in a good condition through a dealer and have received contradicting information on whether the car uses leaded or unleaded (ie with lead substitute) fuel. Can anyone tell me for certain? The sticker on the inside of the gas tank lid contains no info on fuel, only on tire pressures...

I am sure you will get a definative answer later in the day, however since by 1987 even new Fords ran on unleaded I am sure that this MB will be capable, you just need to be sure that it doesnt need a timing adjustment. That said I cant believe that a previous owner has not made the change because of the savings to be had.

Unleaded. I've never used leaded in my 190, but definetly go for Optimax if you can! 190s tend not to like Tesco etc. normal stuff - mine gets very juddery and not smooth at all.

190e W201 *unleaded*

I used to own a 190E W201 2.0L 1988 which ran on unleaded for 3 years with no pinking or fuel problems at all. I am pretty sure that they were converted straight from the factory.

the literature

which came with my 85 SL stated unleaded could be used freely, so it's unlikely that an 88 190 would buck the trend.
