Hello,

I'm having two problems with my car. The first and probably most serious problem is with the tranny. I've had the car for about a year, it has 120,xxx. When I first purchased it I noticed that the tranny would sometimes make a clunking sound if I let up on the gas pedal at the same time it was about to shift gears. It has gradually gotten worse. Now it shifts into 2nd fine, but 3rd and 4th it shifts really hard and when it finally does engage it makes a big clunk sound. Can anyone tell me what is causing this problem and how I can fix it?

Problem #2

It got real cold here last week -20 below 0. I was able to start the car with the help of a shot of ether. The temps here are still fairly cold around 20or30 degrees but now the only way it will start in the morning is if I give it a shot of ehter. It's ok and will start if it's been drivin' for a while but if it sits more than a few hours, I need to give it the ether. Can anyone tell me why? Also the above shifting problem got worse after that -20 day.

Regarding the tranny issue; I've searched this and other forums and I've heard that it could be a bad bushing, vacuum leak or the tranny could be bad. But every one of the posts I've read are referring to gas vehicles and mine is a diesel. Does that matter?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

GO Diesel.

You should never spray Ether or Easy Start in your engine .You will find it will need it all the time now. They become addicted to it Hard to beleive but true.

Your gearbox works the same as a pertrol car.

Now that I've already sprayed the ether in it. Will replacing the glow plugs solve the problem.
