Hi there folks :D ,

I've recently hammered the credit card and bought a 1989 200 auto which is fine apart from a tendency to cut out after a couple of miles (from cold) when slowing down or stopping at a junction etc... :? The car restarts immediately and is fine for the rest of the journey. I purchased a Haynes manual which mentioned the thermo delay valve (on the carb) which should close after 5 - 15 seconds after switching on the ignition (engine off). It didn't seem to do this bit when the car started it was closed? Sometimes the idle is rough in drive whilst in traffic and sometimes the tickover is too high when selecting neutral. I have seen other posts in this forum but they seem to refer to the KE and the overvoltage relay rather than carburettored engines and the choke unit. Any ideas out there?

Thanks in advance!

Jim

Fixed - at least it probably was until I posted this!

Hurrah!

Just to let you know that I think I fixed it :D - well it hasn't stalled since I checked the carb out on Saturday... I checked the diaphragm (??) which was OK and cleaned the piston with petrol as there was a bit of gunge on it. Put it back together and topped the damper up with ATF. Then I checked the cable from the gearbox to the carb which needed adjusting and the slow and fast idle speeds and it is now much better (the fast idle speed was way out). It is still slightly rough occasionally when at the lights etc in 'Drive' but I can live with that! Hope this may be of help to others!

Thanks for looking  !

Regards

Jim
