I posted this query when i first purchased this car and after replacing the chain tensioner to no avail, a merc indi had a listen and told me the noise was 'diesel knock' and an adjustment to the fuel pump will cure, which was planned on next visit. When i started using rapeseed oil mixed with diesel, the noise went completely. After car was parked up for about 6 weeks from xmas, the sound has returned, even with oil in, and is really loud. When i rev a little it stops, does sound like loose chain to me. Could anyone advise as to what could need replacing to cure this? thanks Andy.

It could be injector nailing, a loose top mount to the serpentine belt damper, tappets, incorrect IP timing or the chain. You need to find someone who can tell one from the other

Ok, thanks for that, better take her back to the merc guy, i done a couple hundred mile on Sunday, thought that might be all that was needed but sounded same when home. Today the sound has gone completly after a top up with some oil, but i know if i use diesel alone it will come back.
