I have 1990 300SE with 185K original miles, which I think overheats when Idling (stuck in traffic or at red light). Normally temp. gauge shows reading between 82 and 90 when car is moving, but in traffic it can go to as high as 100. Also, twice it has done this: I had car parked with engine running and AC ON for about 5 minutes. When I started driving (with temp gauge showing 90) car will hesitate to accelerate, felt like engine will die any minute, but it didn't and car was runing fine after I drove it for a mile non-stop. Is this heat related or something else is going on? I just got the water pump replaced (OEM), because it was leaking antifreez. Is time to check the fans? Please help. Thanks.

1) do a seach fro the 'carrot test' and do it.. ;)
2) replace the sensor for the temperature - there are two - one for gauge, one for ecu and fans... (stoopid, i know)
3) make sure the fan(s) come on when it does get hot...
