Hi there, would appreciate any comments or help.

I parked my 320CE coupe, was fine, came back an hour later and it wouldn't start at all. You turn the key and nothing, not even turning over. Tried a jump start just in case but battery fine so not that. Got RAC to start me and he did so by bypassing something so at least I got home. he checked wires etc, didn't think it's the solenoid. His view was that it was most likely the switch in the gearbox that stops it starting in drive etc - he reckoned that had malfunctioned and that's why zero was happening.

If I can be even more sure that this is the problem then that will help me in terms of where to go with it to get it fixed. If it's this unit, is that a massive job? It's on the side of the box apparently.

Thanks as always for help.

Regards
to all

When i bought my Sprinter the dash lights etc would come on but no turning over of the engineness. It turned out to be a main fuse (under drivers seat on mine). Worth a look.

The switch is on the console with the gearshift, if you have an alarm sometimes an extra relay was fitted know as K38. the only sensible way is with a volt meter working back fron the ignition switch. the starter motor is isolated both by the alarm and gear selector.

Hello Dave

I have just read your posting from a few months ago and wondered if you had resloved the problem. I have a W124 1995 E280 Estate which is experiencing the same type of problem. The lights are all illuminated on the dash but refuses to attempt to turn over. I have been told it could be the gearbox inhibitor switch-but can't start the damn thing to get to the garage to fit it! Your reply would be appreciated.

Thanks

Simon
