1993 SL300 oily leak every time hood is activated! HELP

My 1993 SL300 seems to leak an oily substance behind the rear wheel (drivers side) every time the hood is opend or closed. Upon closing the roof the last time, it was basically pouring out, and has not only made a mess on the drive, but left a trail all down our road. Does anyone know whats causing this and how it can be cured?

roof oil leak

the hydraulic pump for the roof is in the boot under the spare wheel it has sprung a leak somewhere don't open the roof or you may not be able to close it

I have the same problem with my 320SL (1994). It was diagnosed as a hydraulic ram leak. The ram is located exactly above where the leak is occuring, and can be seen when the hood is down or half erect if you lift the flap up at the roof mechanism joint. MB quoted me around £900 to fix it. I am looking around at the moment to find a better quote. If someone else has experience of fixing this or can recommend someone, I would appreciate it.
