I have a 1994 C220 Auto.

Recently, it has started cutting out when I'm driving (at all speeds from 5mph - 70mph), the engine just stops.  Once I have come to a stop, if I wait for 30 - 40 seconds and then try starting it then it usually goes fine, and won't do it again for another 20 miles or more.

If I try to start it straight away the starter motor turns, but the engine doesn't go.

This has become more and more common over the last few weeks.

A similar thing happens sometimes if I have stopped the engine for a few minutes once it's warm, and then try to start it again.

If anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful.
Thanks in advance
Alex Wilson.

Hi

I would try an overload protection relay. Situated on the passenger side of the vehicle under the plastic cover, under the bonnet. It is identified by as a silver relay with a red top with a fuse in it. Get the part number of the relay and pop to your local dealer....sorrry stealership and pick up a new one. If that dosn't cure it. Then pop it into you local specialist\stealership or ME!!

Hope this helps.

Had similar problems a while back on a '93 C220, were cured with a new fuel pump relay @ £11.50 and a new Crank position sensor @ £86.00, might be worth a check.

c class cuts out while driving

Hi Alex,

Hopefully you have probably sorted this irritation by now, but the symptoms are exact to a problem i had on my previous car - a saab 900. The fault was a faulty ignition amplifier module. It would heat up, as is expected, get to a certain temperature then fail until it had cooled down again. Obviously it's not the same car but i reckon the ignition is still managed by Bosch as on the saab.

regards,

Duncan.
