A 1984 car is 22 years old, so 30 year old design and 22 years of wear and tear, as against 11 years. Think of things like seals for example. The 1984 car is 'lower' tech so simpler to fix, bnut with 10 years of development, the 1995 one is likely to be technically better.

I fell in love with the 500sec when I read an article back in the early 80s putting it up against an Aston. I think it was the comment that anything that changes up at 130 has to be taken seriously! I still have the mag somewhere. I've always fancied getting one and minting it back to new standard as an alternative to the newer stuff I drive today. Not sure I'd buy one if I couldn't do that though.

Totally agree with JB.

The SEC was a superb car and a lot prettier than the S500 Coupe.

....You can find good solid rust free SLC's. Tank like construction and almost indestructable mechanics (says the bloke who lost an auto box at 85000 on a 78 SLC.)

Am toying with a replacement SLC but may be tempted for a clean and solid SEC.

I rate the old SEC very highly and would love a good one. But they can cost silly money, 9 grand I've seen. The newer car is an objectively better bet, but subjectively older mercs are always more cool.

5 litre pussycat

those V8s are worth the price of admission on their own. I toyed with the idea of a 500 SEC, but was seduced by topless SL motoring along the way. It was always going to be a 5 litre though.
I'd say SEC, but I am stuck in a late 70's early 80's timewarp. Where did I put that Haircut 100 album?

I picked up my 10 year old son in my '83 500 SEC over the weekend. Even though the bodywork needs lots of tlc all of his friends were drooling over a car 13 years older than they are. I am not sure who was most chuffed; my son or me!

SEC looks dated now, yes its a classic and yes it looks the dogs but many are rough and to get them looking good will cost thousands.
Have a look at this one http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/178128.htm

Personally I prefer the S500 or CL500 coupe, rare car and you dont see many, Ive only seen one other on the road in the last 2 years!!!!

When I pick the wife up from the station its amazing how many people have to look back to see what it is.
See the pic attached.
