Hi,

the gearbox in my 1995 W202 C220 is misbehaving. It seems ok milling about town, but if I go for any drives over about 3 miles then it seems to get 'notchy' - hard to put into a gear. For instance, I was on the motorway, accelerating past a lorry, so I dropped into 4th, got up to speed, clutch in and it wouldn't go straight into 5th, took 3 or 4 attempts. On the same run, I had problems in lower gears when getting to traffic lights etc.
The next day it seemed to be fine, no problems selecting gears, but again when I took it for a longer run the notchiness crept back. Has anyone experienced this or got any ideas what it could be? The clutch fluid level seems ok, and I don't think its the clutch.

Cheers

Paul

I've read some of the other posts about gearboxes, but nothing seemed to cover my problem. The gearbox is a manual as well.

I think I'd try bleeding the clutch hydraulics, in fact, while you're doing that you might as well renew the fluid completely. Could well cure your problem but, if it doesn't, you'll have eliminated one possibility at very little expense.
