Hi all, i hope someone can help me with my poor e200,.

My auto box is slipping in mid 3rd gear, but in position 2nd or 3rd all works well, But when i start in position D, 1st 2nd 3rd fine but before 4th it slips, im sure its slipping in mid 3rd gear as i have pushed it hard and she changes to 4th,,,,, ive changed filter and oil and gears are certanly smoother......

Can any help before i go looking for new gearbox:(. is there any adjustment which can be done? or something. im not a merc expert at all.

welcome to the forum! my first thought, as with all auto box problems is is the oil level ok and more importantly, has the oil and filter in the gearbox been changed recently? an oil and filter change has been known to cure many auto box faults!

Thats up to you, sounds cheap! as long as it sorts the problem out then go for it!!!

For that price its prob the cheapest way!

the number i found on drivers side of box above pan is 202270000072242103775847,,,does this mean its a 7224 box?

I was in touch with prestige in uk and he checked my chassis num against a box he has, and its ideal he say's. price 230 before shipment charge, but its garanteed for 3 mths..

This means that to slip in 4th, it must be a clutch which is slipping rather than a band. It's academic, as neither clutches or bands are adjustable on 722.4 gearboxes.

One other thing to check before removing the gearbox is that the vacuum system is correctly assembled.

Looks good, and cheap, only looking it up on EPC would be the only correct way of checking!!

The quick way to check is to disconnect and plug the vacuum line to the modulator valve. The gearshifts should become hammer hard, and, if the slipping goes, it may mean that either sorting the vacuum piping out, or adjusting the modulator pressure will help.

If, however, you still get slip with the vac pipe off and plugged, then, you *know* the fault is inside the gearbox.
